och samma på English

Since we're having international guests coming to our club, it would be nice to provide them with some info in English.

So. We're bunch of self-educated vegan cooks who want to promote this lifestyle by organizing the club Teijän Keittiö monthly, more or less regularly. We cook ourselves and serve nutritious vegan meals, including main dish with fixings, salad, (home-baked) bread, spread, beverages and dessert. Teijän Keittiö is non-profit project and we try to keep the meal price as low as possible, still remaining self-supporting. The prices are 3€ for the main dish and 1€ for dessert+coffee/tea.

The club is located in Kulttuuriklubi Siperia, Sepänkeskus, Kyllikinkatu 1 . It might be a bit tricky for first-timers to find, entrance is kind of from behind the building.. We've been planning on painting a Teijän Keittiö banner, we can then hang it outside to help people to navigate in. At least I had hard time finding the right spot at the first time. Kulttuuriklubi Siperia is cultural centre for the youth and we can use their premises free of charge.

I'm not really sure how or when the "original" Teijän Keittiö started. Some activists were organizing the club in Jyväskylä, somewhere in early years of 2000. That was one of the first contacts I ever had with veganism. It was doing well, but little by little it just started to fade away, people moving out of town, less active members and less guests.. So there was a couple of years of vegan club deprivation in Jyväskylä. At the end of 2008 I and some friends got the feeling that time would be right to resurrect the project. The first Teijän Keittiö by the new crew was presented in December 2008 and we had it going on monthly until May 2009. We were supposed to be back in business after summer holiday, but somehow it lasted till October. During August and September we were involved with a major project called Kasviskekkerit. But now, hopefully, we'll be able to keep it going pretty regularly. But fresh faces are always welcome, so if you're interested in getting involved, let us know!
